Will a Political Paul be Called?

If you are like me, you are agonizing over all of the political happenings the Biden administration is forcing down the throats of conservative Americans. As a Christian, one cannot honestly call the actions of our government in line with God’s Word or His will (i.e., the legalization and celebration of abortion, infanticide, same-sex marriage, and fluid gender identities). Do you believe that the Democrat far Left components really hate America or are they genuinely acting according to what is right in their own eyes? Do they truly believe that Socialism is what is best for our country?

This made me ponder someone else who was doing what he believed whole-heartedly was right according to everything he ever learned: Saul of Tarsus. He was a zealous, educated member of the Pharisees and he persecuted, witnessed against and executed Christians because he believed they blasphemed against Jehovah. We see his testimony to Agrippa in Acts 26 and in verses 15-18 Luke writes the words that the resurrected Christ spoke on the road to Damascus. The purpose for God to call out Saul to become the Apostle Paul was to “minister and witness” (v. 16) to all nations, “to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me” (v. 18).

Our God is a God of miracles, and I firmly hold that He can raise up someone today who can also open the eyes of the lost and turn them from darkness to light in our very government. May this person or these people be able to turn back the tide that is the destruction of the law of the land, our Constitution, which the Lord established via our forefathers 244 years ago. May they be able to influence governmental decisions to turn away from satanic practices and return to godly practices…repentance of our country. May they be able to spread the Gospel of Jesus freely that many will come to saving faith.

This is why we must fight the urge to complain about our government and PRAY for them. Paul directs all Christians (specifically “every soul“) to be “subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” (Romans 13:1). (See my article “Pray and Obey” in our March 2021 Good News Bulletin.) Pray that God will raise up righteous politicians to calibrate this country’s moral compass once again. Pray that eyes will be opened (both of our representatives and of the voters) to the truth (and lies) which are spoken.

And finally, meditate on the encounter between the Lord and Solomon after he finished the temple. The Lord said (in context referring to Israel but in applicability it can be to the United States) “I have heard thy prayer” (2 Chronicles 7:12) and no matter what the Lord does to punish the people (7:13), God makes a promise: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (7:14). So, let us humble ourselves, pray, seek God and repent…as a country and as the Church…and God will hear, forgive and heal our land!
