This is just a personal post that hits home for me. Last Thursday, one of our dogs, BD, a lab-healer mix who will be 12 years old next month, was found to have advanced kidney failure. If you love animals like Beth and I do, you can imagine how devastating it is to get that kind of diagnosis. We are trying to keep her comfortable and spoil her (more than normal) and we are asking the Lord for wisdom to know when to put her down so that she does not suffer. Right now she is still eating and doing well, but we know it is just a matter of days before she is gone from us. I believe that I will see her again, even though the Bible is not clear about animals “going to Heaven”. Because it is not clear, it is possible in my opinion, and although they are not made in the image and likeness of God (and therefore have no soul), they have a spirit. They are created and were blessed to us down here…perhaps they will be waiting in that place that Jesus went to prepare for us! God is sovereign, God is good, and He knows best for all of us.
Today, also regarding love for our canine companions, an article was brought to my attention about a local man who lost his beloved dog. He is still hopeful the dog is alive out there somewhere and has offered a significant reward for his return. See the San Antonio Express article here: https://www.expressnews.com/news/article/San-Antonio-man-20k-reward-missing-dog-16219553.php.
This gentleman is holding out hope that his dog is still alive and will be returned if the appropriate incentive is offered. Knowing the pain of loss, I also hope he is reunited with Golani.
No matter what, Job 1:21 is most relevant in both of these situations: the Lord gives, the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord!
