BBC News reported that the UN estimates over 11 million people in Ukraine have fled their homes due to the Russian invasion. “As well as the 5.3 million who have left for neighboring countries, another 6.5 million people are thought to be displaced inside the war-torn country itself.“
This is a tragedy and we pray for a quick end to the war and that Russia will be pushed back out of Ukraine so the rebuilding can begin. Whatever reasons are truly behind the war, it is the citizens who suffer and who we are trying to help. Thank you to our supporters who have raised a significant amount of money to provide the refugees with food, clothes and other living necessities to sustain them until they can either return home or resettle abroad.
Though it looks as if we will not see any Ukrainian refugees in San Antonio in the near future, we will begin disbursing the donations we have to a Christian organization or two (depending on the Lord’s direction) who are on the front lines receiving and aiding the refugees as they come out of Ukraine…as early as next month.
Matthew 6:19-21 reads: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” When we give to those who are less fortunate, we are staring up treasures in Heaven…but it is not really about that. It is about actually helping people who need our help that God has blessed us with the ability to give. As we help them, may we give them the Gospel along with the food, shelter, and all of their bodily needs. The Gospel will restore their spirit while the physical donations restore the body.
We will continue to take donations and pledges through the end of May but may extend that depending on how long the war continues. Keep praying, and do what the Lord leads you to do in order to be a light unto so many who are walking in darkness. God bless!
